Workflows in Windows SharePoint Services (WSS)

Found some great MSDN articles for those embarking on on Workflow adventures within MOSS (Sharepoint 2007)

Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 provides a robust, customizable work environment for users to create, collaborate, and store valuable business information. Windows SharePoint Services now enables you to attach custom business processes to these documents or list items.

Custom business processes are represented by workflows. A workflow is a natural way to organize and run a set of work units, or activities, to form an executable file representation of a work process.

This process can control almost any aspect of an item in Windows SharePoint Services, including the life cycle of that item. The workflow is flexible enough to model both the system functions and human actions necessary for the workflow to complete.

The article entitled Workflow Development Tools Comparison is a good overview of the in’s and out’s of using Windows Workflow in Visual Studio – VS – Sharepoint Designer.

And, there’s another player in this arena : Nintex Workflow 2007.   Have just returned from an overview & demo at MOSSIG.  More soon.

Below is basically what I need to do before next week. I have created most of my workflows in SPS Designer. Below is a screen shot of one of the document libraries I need to create a workflow on. I just want to send an email to the approver of each subfolder. So EHS has an approver group set up in SPS, IT, HR ect..Do I need to create a workflow for each folder? I am stumped on this one because the workflows I designed already there was only one approver for the whole document library. So if a item in uploaded and published to a major version, I want the approver of that dept to get an email.
