Silverlight + SharePoint

The TechEd developers conference is winding into full-gear this week, from Orlando, Florida. There’s actually TWO conferences – one for developers, and another for IT Professionals.

Will be great to see/hear some news and development announcements.

Keep an eye out for the Silverlight+SharePoint session listed on the Session Catalog – I’ll hopefully be re-prezzo’ing that at TechEd Australia (in Sydney, early September).

Light Up Your SharePoint Web Site with Microsoft Silverlight and AJAX (Patrick Tisseghem)

In this session, learn how to leverage Web 2.0 technologies to deliver a rich and interactive end-user experience for SharePoint sites and content.

Topics covered are: building ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 enabled Web Parts; creating and consuming SharePoint Web services that are AJAX-enabled; Web Parts hosting Silverlight 1.0 and 1.1 applications; techniques to have the Silverlight applications communicated back and forth with SharePoint content such as items in lists and libraries, user profile information and search results; samples of how publishing portals can be enriched with Silverlight navigation controls and enhanced page layouts; and demos on how to build Windows Vista Gadgets that display SharePoint content using traditional UI techniques as well as using Silverlight.

And – there’s a Hands-On-Labs session too :

Using Microsoft Silverlight to Enhance the Look and Feel of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

This lab is intended for experienced .NET developers wanting to learn about developing Silverlight enhanced SharePoint Web Parts and Navigation controls.

SharePoint makes use of the ASP.NET 2.0 provider model and in this lab, you will go through the process of extending this model to create a control that is Silverlight based.

Also, learn the basic techniques of how to deliver Silverlight 1.0 and Silverlight 1.1 applications in a SharePoint Web Part.
