A recent engagement for a SharePoint intranet site had a requirement to change the text displayed on the footer of the page.
The details required were the “Created By” text and “Date Modified”.
Some hunting about turned up the details for a SharePoint user control that can be added to the Master Page – to display in a variety of formats (templates) :
