Installing SharePoint 2013 – this tool does not support the current operating system

SharePoint 2013 !!

It’s finally available for a public review/beta.

I have a new VM with Windows Server 2008 R2 – with all updates applied.

BUT – get an error – almost immediately when attempting to install pre-requisites.

There was an error during installation.

This tool does not support the current operating system.

It turns out that you have to ‘manually’ choose to install SERVICE PACK 1 – it’s not done as part of the updates.    (FAIL !?)

Download from here :

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1

The file you’ll need is the “windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe” file – at the bottom of the list…

Once you’ve installed that – and re-booted – you’ll be able to proceed with the SP2013 install.

*phew*
